mezuzot
Koalas & Lizards!
Description: Our mezuzot celebrate Australian pride in home ownership through a ‘Jewish’ lens. The imagery is a blend of cherished Australian icons; the convention of naming our homes (popular after 1901 with Federation); and the Torah commandment to place the mezuzah on our doorposts. The mezuzah – a reminder of the Divine in our lives, and protection for the home. Similarly, the convention of naming houses contributes to the sacred / protected nature of home and family.Emoh Ruo (i.e. Our Home) was a very popular house name, as was Kia Ora (Maori for Good Health, and a greeting hello and goodbye). Prominent Jewish Australian, Sir Zelman Cowan, lived his early years in inner city Melbourne in a home named Emoh Ruo!
